Match Reports- Round 6 Womens

Division 3

Athelstone 0  Salisbury inter 3

Rnd 6 Athelstone Away 3 – 0 (Sharna Cook 2 Tania Malavindi) The girls’ nervously awaited this fixture all week. Playing against mates and an old club can bring mixed emotions. Athelstone have the ability to play some good football so it was going to be a tough encounter. It turned out Inter had nothing to worry about. We started well, crowding the midfield and breaking as a group keeping the opposition at bay on the large ground that is Athelstone Res. The first 20mins was even with both teams attacking. Inters backline of Jane, Hayley, Kristy Hulley and Nell dealt with everything that came there way. Just on 20 mins we won the ball on the right and Sharna run away from the defence to strike a great goal up and over the keeper. Athelstone had a couple of chances from distance, one right on halftime that whistled over the bar. Other than that we controlled the middle with Jenny and Christie breaking up attacks and Sharna, Sarah and Stacy supporting Tania, playing a lone role up front. On a sad note just before halftime we lost Helen to a serious knee injury that will see her out of our side for some time.

The second half started really well and 7 mins in Sharna raced onto a through ball from Christie and hit another great goal to the left of the keeper to give us a 2 nil led. The game was flat for the next 30 mins and never really reached any highs. Our defence which also included Nikki dealt with everything that came there way. Kirsty made one save in this half. This really frustrated a number of the Athelstone players who just couldn’t get their game going due to the constant Inter pressure. In the final minutes, Debbie Collins who had a great second half combined with Tania down the left to create what can only be described as a fantastic goal. Collectively they pressured the defence to the point where Tania ended up heading a ball over top of a defender, rounded another and then lobbed the ball into the far corner of the goal. All this from the far left corner of the penalty box. I don’t think I have seen a better individual goal this season.

We then had to defend a couple of corners right at the end, to finish 3 nil winners.

Standout Player of the Day: Sharna Cook.

Match Report- Round 5 Womens

Round 5 Women’s Division 1.

Sunday 06/05/12.  Salisbury Inter  6  Munno Para  0.  (H/T 2-0)

Goal scorers : Beck Blacker (4) , Jess Attewell (10) , Tania Grant (53) , Laura Fazekas (60,66) , Hannah Stehbens (72).

Our old rivals Munno Para were the visitors to Underdown Park in round 5 in a game where after our clashes of the past 2 seasons have helped to build a healthy rivalry between the 2 teams. Inter were off to the best possible start in the 4th minute with Jess Obushak making a great run down the right and crossing to Beck Blacker who finished from close range. Ten minutes in and Jess Attewell got her 1st of the season when she nodded home a Jemma Zaworski cross to make it 2-0. The rest of the 1st half saw Inter have the edge in possession and could have gone in at half time 3-0 up when Beck beat the offside trap and the keeper only to see her shot hit the post and cleared by the Munno Para defence. The visitors opened the second half well and in the opening few minutes and it was their turn to be unlucky when a shot from outside the box hit the woodwork. Inter needed the 3rd goal to kill the contest and it came in the 53rd minute with Tania Grant lobbing the ball over the oncoming Para keeper for a great finish. Laura Fazekas then got in the scoring act with 2 goals the second being an absolute beauty from outside the box which smacked against the underside of the bar before going in to make it 5-0. Not to be outdone Hannah Stehbens makes it 6-0 with 18 minutes to go with a shot from about 20 metres out to get her 1st goal of the season. A great result for the girls with a performance which was a vast improvement on the previous week.

Best for Inter were Jess Attewell , Beck Blacker , Hannah Stehbens & Laura Fazekas.

Match Report – Cup Round 1 Womens

The Division 4

Flinders Flames 6 – Salisbury Inter 0

The Division 4 girls came up against tough opposition in the first round of the cup in division 3 side Flinders Flames and with several players out with injury the task of getting through to the next round was never going to be easy and it proved to be just that despite the hard work and effort the girls put in we were 6-0 losers. Despite the loss the girls took some positives out of the game, we keep our shape and structure and they continue to improve in there positional awareness but on the day the Flinders girls proved to the better team. Best on the day were Marika Sarantidis, Danielle Occhionero and Jemma Worthington, special mention must also go to Alicia Shelley and Kayla McConnell who played there first ever game of soccer and certainly did not look out of place, well done girls.

Match Report – Round 4 Womens

Division 1

Adelaide City  2  Salisbury Inter  9  (H/T 1-5)

Goal scorers : Jess Obushak (2) , Beck Blacker (5,85) , Sarah Ielasi (29,40,45) , Tania Grant (51) , Sarah Harman (65, 87 pen.)

This was one of those games where a big win didn’t necessarily mean a great performance. Two goals from Jess Obushak & Beck Blacker in the opening 5 minutes set the tone for the day
on a small pitch with a surface that at best could be described as average.
The score could have been 5 or 6 nil in the first 15 minutes as we continually exposed an undermanned Adelaide City defence only to see chance after chance go begging.
City pulled a goal back in the 16th minute but the game was over at half time with Sarah Ielasi being moved into midfield and scoring a first half hat trick to see Inter lead 5-1 at the break.
The second half saw more of the same with the away side cruising thanks to goals from Tania Grant , Beck with her second of the game and Sarah Harman with a double including an 87th minute penalty
to see Inter win convincingly 9-2.

Best for Inter were the Ielasi sisters Sarah and Lisa with Beck Blacker having a good game also.

Division 3

Salisbury Inter  1  Para Hills United  1

Round 4 Para Hills Utd Home 3-1 ( Sharna Cook, Kasia Culhune and Nana D) With a centre midfield of Sharna, Christie and Kasia, Inter dominated the first half of the game against PH Utd. For all the dominance we struggled to come up with the width that was required to open up a stern PH Utd defence. We eventually broke through when Sharna slotted a bouncing ball home from within the 18 yard box and for all our dominance we only went in 1 nil up at half time.

We started quietly in the 2nd half and it wasn’t until we tried to use the width that we improved. We went 2 nil up when Nana D received the ball deep into the opposition backline and hit a high ball across the keeper and into the far corner. That was the spark we needed and the girls played some nice football playing little “give and goes” and none better than the lead up to Inters 3rd. It is difficult to remember the sequence of passes however we put together a least half a dozen moves that resulted in the ball being laid back to Jenny on the edge of the box. Jenny calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner for a 3 nil lead.

Unfortunately we conceded an unnecessary goal in the last 2 mins which took the shine of a good all-around effort.

Standout Player of the Day: Kasia Culhune.
